National Executive Agency of the Project in Turkmenistan is the Institute of "Gun" of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan. The main direction of its scientific activity is conducting scientific and technical research on the practical use of alternative (solar, wind) energy sources, studying the problems of physics, chemistry, thermal, chemical and heat technologies and introduction of scientific developments in national economy and agriculture.

The main objectives of the institute are: scientific development of cultivation technologies that deliver maximum yield of crops, breeding and seed-farming of melons and gourds; introduction of different species, varieties of fruit trees and vines, their use in the breeding of new, locally adapted varieties; development of science-based systems of plant protection; registration trials of new plant protection products. The Institute has 3 research divisions: Department of Agricultural Crops Cultivation Technology, Department of Fruit and Vegetable Crops, Department of Plant Protection.

The main objectives of the institute are: comprehensive research, development of methods for sustainable use and conservation of biosphere resources in Turkmenistan, the study of desertification and development of complex measures on rational use of land and water resources, comprehensive study of the diversity of flora and fauna, monitoring of endemic, rare and endangered species of animals and plants, their conservation and management of the National Red Book, creating the Database and State Cadastre, the development of technologies for rehabilitation and improvement of degraded pastures and creation of forestries for plant species, development of recommendations for the protection of roads, railways and other economic facilities from the sand drifts and deflation, development of scientific bases of the highly protected areas network and recommendations for improving the management, execution of government orders to monitor the pollution of the environment. The Institute has 8 research laboratories: Laboratory of Ecology and Cytology; of Plant Resources; of Invertebrates; of Vertebrates; of Forests and Pastures; of Sand Fixation and Afforestation; of Highly Protected Areas; of Desertification Monitoring and Remote Sensing Methods; Research and Production Center of Ecological Monitoring; Research and Information Center of Interstate Commission on Sustainable Development; the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
MAHTUMKULI RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION CENTER OF PLANT GENETIC RESOURCES

Mahtumkuli experimental station of subtropical and tropical crops is considered as the genetic reserve of "living collection", and which is the center of wild relatives of subtropical fruit crops. The main function of the station are the mobilization of plant resources of fruit, subtropical, nut crops and grapes, studying and keeping the gene pool, the identification of donors of valuable characters and properties for their use in breeding.
